The work explores the relationship between literature, imagination and the absurd. A book represents knowledge, contemplation and escape; here, reading becomes an unpredictable and destructive experience. The visual joke also suggests how a story, idea or piece of literature can suddenly overwhelm us and change the way we see the world.
Inspired by old comics and absurd visual narratives, the delicate line drawing, restrained colours and quiet composition contrast with the sudden violence of the explosion.
